Puakenikeni is a combination of the Hawaiian words "pua" meaning flower and "kenikeni" meaning 10 cents. This bright orange flower used to be sold for 10 cents each, so Hawaiians started calling it the "10-cent flower". In English, it is also called the Perfume Flower Tree.
